Good Morning From Johannesburg

Community Plumbing Challenge 2016

July 9-15, 2016

Team USA arrived in Chicago on Tuesday night.  We had a chance to all be in one place at the same time, which really helped.  I have spent time with the team members via Skype and online, but the only team member I had spent time with in person up till then was Lila.

The Holiday Inn was great to us--Randy got us a room upgrade to a conference room suite, so we had AV equipment and room to work.  The team did a walk through of their presentation for Randy and Doug and I, and we had an excellent feedback session.  It was such fun to watch the team's energy go up through the day--they know that they are bringing some really creative ideas to share during the next week.

The Holiday Inn staff also gave us a good luck card!  It is such fun to talk to people about this CPC and see how interested they become.  We promised to check back in with them when we come back to let them know how things went.

We had a treat to look forward at lunch time, before we even got to the airport!  We had lunch with Bill and Susan Erickson!  We couldn't be more appreciative for all the Bill and Susan have done to support Team USA, the CPC and the new IWSH foundation.

They are so committed to safe water and empowering the citizens of the world.  For me personally, I couldn't ask for a better friend and mentor than Bill has been to me in the past year.  Bill and Sue had a chance to really get to know the team, and we had a great lunch including lots of dessert.

We flew all night, 14 hours from Chicago to Dubai, and then had a four hour layover and a chance to get something to eat and move around a bit.

We flew eight hours from Dubai to Johannesburg, landing at 5:30.  All of our connections went smoothly and we met friends at the airport--Pat, from Singapore, who made the wonderful CPC 2015 videos in India, and Dave, a new contact for us from HealthHabitat.

Today has been a catch-up, rest-up day for us before things really get started.  It is beautiful here at the Indaba Resort--sunny but chilly.  We ate lunch outside and then have been running some errands while the other teams arrive.

We know these two have something up their sleeve!

Tomorrow afternoon we will be visiting Diepsloot and things really get started!
